The Mission currently derives approximately 30% of its annual operating revenue from the salvage and resale of clothing, furniture and household items donated by the public. The bulk of the items sold at the Mission Store, located at 98 Carroll Street across from The Times, comes from donations from the public. At the present time the mix between old items and new items sold in the store is 60% vs. 40%.
In May of 2008 the MISSION STORE re-opened with a dramatic new look. Instead of the ubiquitous tables piled high with donated clothing, rack after rack of clothing organized by gender, type and color now fill the room. The racks are filled with more than 5,000 articles of clothing and are changed on a regular basis as the merchandise is sold. All clothing in our Carroll Street store is displayed and sold by the item. We continue to offer the lowest prices in the area on high-quality used clothing.
The furniture department is the home of good, quality donated living room furniture, kitchen sets, dining room furniture, desks, accent tables, and much more. To enhance shopper's choices, we have increased our line of "new" items to include washers, dryers, microwaves, refrigerators, household cleaning supplies, and bath items to name a few.
COURTESY STORE:
On the Rescue Mission grounds we have a Courtesy store where individuals in need can visit and receive clothing FREE of charge. The courtesy store is open daily and receives referrals from non-profit agencies, Emergency Shelter Program, City and County offices, and walk-ins. See how your donations are helping others (pdf)
